Brooklyn to Alaska

Mission

BK2AK provides a pathway for diverse youth to create transformative, life-defining experiences in the rugged wilderness of Alaska, while forging deep and lasting connections with the outdoors and each other.

Increasing access to the outdoors

BK2AK gives teens from Brooklyn access to amazing wilderness experiences: climbing a glacier, rafting down a rushing river, and sleeping in a tent under the stars.

WHO WE SERVE

Our participants are primarily BIPOC youth (13-15) who express interest, and whose teachers and guidance counselors determine have the emotional maturity and fortitude to spend 2 weeks in the rugged Alaskan wilderness.

Transforming lives

BK2AK inspires Brooklyn teens to overcome obstacles and discover inner strengths they never realized they possessed. They return to Brooklyn ready to take on new challenges they never before thought they could handle.

A BOLD VISION FORWARD

Having provided life-defining adventures to teens since 2008, BK2AK is now taking even bolder action to address the systemic inequities of outdoor recreation.

Our latest chapter is the Grad to Guide leadership program. This program provides our teens with highly skilled, culturally relatable role models in the outdoors.

We believe that outdoor recreation will only become equitable with significant investment in equipping BIPOC youth with the skills and experience they need to be the next generation of wilderness guides and adventurers.
